BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (6 June 2011) – Majra FC won their first silverware in eight years when they grabbed the DST Group Brunei League Cup final this week.
Majra marked their arrival in the big league of Brunei football when they delivered a shocker with a 2-1 win over Royal Brunei Armed Forces’ Sports Council (MS ABDB) in extra-time off a winner from Adi Md Said – the younger brother of Shahrazen.
“I was nervous but I knew that was our chance to finally win something. I never thought I would score especially the winning goal (in the 100th minute of play),” added the 20-year-old hitman after the match at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in Berakas.
The score at the end of regulation was 1-1 with Majra going in front through 18-year-old Abdul Azim’s 47th minute header which was cancelled out by MS ABDB’s Ak Md Fakharrazi 25metre stinger in the 70th minute.
The loss for MS ABDB was hard to swallow as they have been the losing finalist in all four years the League Cup was organised.
“I’ve had better days,” said MS ABDB’s coach Steve Rule afterwards.
“Through normal time their goalkeeper made some key saves at key times and their strikers (Adi and Md Faizal Mohammad) were a problem with their pace.
“But if you don’t take your chances, you don’t win matches. All credit to Majra, they had a game plan and they executed it.”
