SINGAPORE (May 24, 2007) – Home United took the accolade as the champion of the first round of the S-League when they comprehensively beat Geylang United 3-0 on the road to maintain their position at the top of the standing.
In the match which was played at the Stadium Bedok the Protectors, as they are more known as, took the lead as early as the first minute when Kone Hamed slammed home from inside the box. Kengne Ludovick then made it 2-0 for the visitors with a penalty conversion in the 66th minute before Qiu Li completed the fabulous night for Home United with the third goal in the 78th minute. Home United is now on 28 points from nine wins, one draw and one loss while Tampines Rovers is on 24 points with eights wins and two losses but with a game in hand. Third at the standing is Singapore Armed Forces who has 22 points from seven wins, one draw and two losses – also with a game yet to play. But even though Home United has now carved out a four-point lead at the top of the table over Tampines Rovers, the team lost international defender S. Subramani to an awkward injury. In the meantime Singapore Armed Forces and Tampines Rovers will know whether they can close the gap on Home United when they play their final 11th game of the first round of the S-League in a few days.
