YANGON (3 Oct 2012) – Park Sung Hwa, the chief coach of Myanmar, feels that their match against Brunei will be the key to the rest of their campaign in the qualifying round of the AFF Suzuki Cup 2012 which will begin at the Thuwunna Youth Training Centre in two days.
Sung Hwa said that the team learned a lot during their recent tour of Japan, but just how much they have imbibed will depend on what they will show in the opening game.
“We had an eye opening experience in Japan, the players learn things and they were exposed to a higher level of playing the game. But just how much they can translate it into useful lessons would depend on what they will show on the pitch,” said Sung Hwa.
“We can prepare the team as much as we could but at the end of the day, they must want to play the game efficiently and that they will have to show against Brunei.
“That will be the key to our campaign.”
The Myanmar squad had just only returned from a five-match playing tour of Japan. And while they may be eager to show their quality playing at home, the fact that they did not win even a single game during their sojourn must weigh heavy on Sung Hwa and his men.
In Japan, the Myanmar side had played friendly matches against teams from the top echelon of the J-League and also second division sides.
In the meantime, the Cambodian team checked in this afternoon – at the back of a 2-1 loss in their final friendly match against Harimau Muda last night.
Cambodia, who had drawn Singapore’s Young Lions to a 3-3 draw previously, could not find the equaliser off two goals from Mohd Fadhli Shas and A. Thamil Arasu as they scored their only goal through Keo Sokngon.
