DILI (14 Feb 2017) – The Asian Football Confederation’s (AFC) commitment to strengthen the foundations for its Member Associations (MA) was further underlined Tuesday as Technical Directors and their assistants from 45 MAs gathered for the opening ceremony of the first-ever AFC Technical Directors’ Conference in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The theme of the three day conference – the Future of Technical Development – has been designed to chart the future direction of technical development in Asia and establish key strategies to ensure the success of Asian teams and players as envisaged in the AFC’s Vision and Mission – One Asia, One Goal.
Opening the conference, AFC Technical Director Andy Roxburgh, who also presented a detailed overview of football development in Asia, said: “Technical development forms an essential pillar for us to ensure the success of our MAs at all levels.
“From building success on the world stage, to expanding the reach of the game, the key is technical development.”
“Today’s conference provides an opportunity for Technical Directors throughout the continent to embark on a shared journey, one that will intensify our efforts in the different facets of the game.”
The AFC has made significant strides in the past 12 months with the preparation of the new AFC Coaching Convention, AFC Youth Scheme and AFC Grassroots Charter, which have been led by members of the AFC Coach Education, Youth and Grassroots Panels – all of whom were introduced to the continent’s Technical Directors today.
The three game-changing initiatives will be discussed in greater detail during the conference over the next two days, providing Technical Directors with the opportunity to better understand the implementation of the programmes, which will have a big impact on their activities.
Also during the event, women’s football in Asia will be cast under the spotlight together with a presentation by representatives from UEFA, who will share their experience of football development on a continental basis.
