SINGAPORE (6 Jan 2012) – After a loss and two defeats in their last three friendlies, the LIONSXII finally carved their first win in preparation for their first foray in the Malaysian Super League – with a 1-0 victory over Johor FC.
In the game that was played at the Jalan Besar Stadium, the newly-assembled Singapore side clinched the winner off captain Shahril Ishak in the 56th minute.
“After a loss and two draws, I think it is a good sign that we won and the confidence is back with the boys. They are looking forward to the season opener against Kelantan (on 10 January). We have to rectify a few areas where we think we went wrong after analysing the match video,” said V.Sundramoorthy, the chief coach of LIONSXII.
“I am quite pleased for Izwan’s confidence that we did not concede any goals, the defence confidence and generally the team’s confidence. I think as a team, we can play much better given that we have been together for only 4 weeks. Honestly I can’t wait for the season to start and get things going.”
The LIONSXII had fallen to a 3-2 loss to Johor in their first friendly before drawing 2-2 against PKNS FC and then 3-3 against ATM.
