JAKARTA (26 Jan 2014) – The final of the Inter Island Cup has been postponed indefinitely. The final match between Arema Indonesia and Persib Bandung was supposed to be played this weekend at the Gelora Delta Stadium in Sidoarjo.
But due to the threat of unrest, the Sidoarjo police refused to issue the permit to hold the game.
“There is no choice but to have the final of the Inter Island Cup 2014 after the kick-off after the start of the Indonesia Super League (on 1 February),” said Joko Driyono, the general secretary of the FA of Indonesia (PSSI).
“We don’t want to have the final match of the Inter Island Cup just for the sake of having it. We are considering the best options which are available whether to play the game at a neutral venue or on a home and away basis. One thing which is certain is that we can only play this final match in June, August or December.”
