MANILA (10 June 2011) – The Universal Football League (UFL) All-Stars team gave an injection of reality to the aspiration of the Philippines national side when they scored a 4-3 win over the latter in a friendly this week at the Makati Field.
The match was being used as a tune-up for the Philippines national side preparing for the 2014 World Cup qualifiers against Sri Lanka at the end of the month.
Led by 38-year-old Yanti Barsales, Philippines were the first to make the score sheet off Emilio Caligdong before UFL bounced back for the equaliser and then the lead from Mark Hartmann early in the second half.
Simon Greatwich then put the score at 2-2 before the Philippines defence lapsed again for the UFL to nose in front to 3-2.
Striker Ian Araneta’s goa gave the impressive that a draw was imminent only to see Izzeldin El-Habbib blasting in a powerful shot past Neil Etherideg for the winner.
