SINGAPORE (18 Oct 2009) – FIFA have rejected the appeal put forward by the FA of Singapore (FAS) to allow Brunei club DPMM FC to complete their appearance in the S-League.
DPMM FC have played a total of 28 matches in the S-League and where they need only to play five further games to complete the season. “FIFA have confirmed that Brunei’s club DPMM FC will not be able to continue playing in the 2009 S-League season while the suspension on the FA of Brunei (BAFA) still stand,” read the statement from FAS. FIFA made the decision in Zurich yesterday following the final appeal from the FAS. “The FAS is disappointed with the outcome especially since we have the understanding from FIFA that DPMM FC would be able to play in the 2009 season when they (FIFA) gave the approval in writing at the start of the season.” Meanwhile, DPMM FC have requested for the FAS to extend the deadline to Monday. In the event that DPMM FC were unable to resolve the issue by Monday, the FAS will continue the 2009 S-League season without them. In accordance to the S-League rules, all DPMM FC’s results in the league will also be expunged. FIFA earlier this month told DPMM FC that they cannot finish their debut Singapore League campaign because of the world governing body’s decision to suspend BAFA during their Executive Committee meeting in September. |
