BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (27 Jan 2016) – A five-day FIFA Grassroots Coaching Course was started yesterday by the National FA of Brunei Darussalam (NFABD) with 27 participants taking part.
The course will give participants with the practical and theory sessions in FIFA grassroots philosophy, the role of a coach educator, the importance of small-sided games and fair-play.
FIFA Instructor and FIFA Development Officer Dato Yap Nyim Keong, who will be overseeing the course, emphasised the importance of a strong grassroots football development programme in his speech.
“Grassroots football is very important because we need to develop from the basics first,” he said. “Only with a strong base will be possible to identify better players.
“Without a strong industrial programme, you will not have a strong national team.
“To develop grassroots football, we also need the cooperation of all stakeholders – and not just NFABD – such as the government, society, community leaders, head of districts and also the schools.”
Dato Yap also praised NFABD for their efforts in developing grassroots football in the country over the past few years and congratulated them for their achievement at the Asian Football Confederation’s (AFC) Annual Awards in New Delhi, India last month.
NFABD was awarded the Aspiring AFC President Recognition Award for Grassroots Football and was also amongst those in contention for the Aspiring AFC Member Association of the year award – which eventually went to the Bangladesh Football Federation.
