BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (15 April 2016) – A TOTAL of 30 coaches affiliated with the National FA of Brunei Darussalam (NFABD) began their FIFA basic goalkeeping coaching course yesterday.
The five-day course is led by FIFA goalkeeping instructor from Saudi Arabia, Hamat Amer Al-Yami, who highlighted that proper goalkeeping is crucial for a stable team.
Hamat also hopes the course will give the participants the basic knowledge of how to educate young and senior goalkeepers while getting more insight on game related circumstances.
The course will also provide theoretical aspects as well as practical applications such as shot-stopping, basic handling from crosses and proper positioning as a goalkeeper.
“Through this course, participants must realise their role to coach their goalkeepers properly is crucial in order for them to have a solid team,” Hamat said yesterday.
“A dedicated, quality and a professional goalkeeper can change the game any time, hence why we push to further develop them in these courses.
“I’m delighted to see such a great turnout for this course – especially since this is my first time here in Brunei – because I believe that having great interest to improve is also very important.
“I hope that through this course, the participants can greatly benefit the football leagues here, because that is our target at the end of the day,” he added.
Present to launch the training was NFABD Executive Committee member Hj Abd Razak Hj Ibrahim.
“I strongly believe that with the support from FIFA through such courses as these, the standard of goalkeeping in our national leagues will rise,” he said.
“It is important for our participants to be open-minded with all different techniques and styles of coaching goalkeepers, and hopefully one day, our current goalkeeping coaches would be able to produce top quality national goalkeepers.”
