SINGAPORE (25 March 2016) – Singapore defeated Myanmar 2-1 last night in a friendly match, as part of the National Team’s preparations for the joint World Cup/Asian Cup qualification match against Afghanistan next week.
Captain Shahril Ishak enjoyed a fine game and opened the scoring in the 27th minute, before Myanmar’s Suan Lam Mang equalised in the 65th minute. The Lions secured the victory in front of 5,280 fans at the Jalan Besar Stadium when striker Fazrul Nawaz scored in the 87th minute.
Bernd Stange, Head Coach National Teams, praised Myanmar for trying to win and creating a good match. He said at the post-match press conference: “There were opportunities for both sides, and my compliments go to Myanmar for a fantastic game.”
Coach Bernd also went on to thanked the fans, media and his FAS colleagues for a good match filled with a good atmosphere.
He said: “I will pass compliments to fantastic fans. Football is a game for fans and they are the true VIPs in football. Thank you to the media for helping to publicise this game. I also want to thank the FAS team, including marketing, communications and competitions, for organising a fantastic game tonight for our fans.”
