SOLO (15 Jan 2014) – The favourites including defending champions Persipura Jayapura fell by the wayside as the campaigners completed the quarter-finalists for the Inter-Island Cup 2014.
Persipura did not recover from their loss to Perseru Serui in the Papua opener while last year’s runners-up Persisam failed to even pick up a point from their Kalimantan zone.
As such, the teams which made the cut for the quarter-finals are Perseru Serui (Papua-Sulawesi zone), Barito Putera (Kalimantan zone), Arema Cronus (Jawa-2 zone) and Sriwijaya FC (Sumatera zone) where they have been placed in Group A.
Group B are Persiram Raja Ampat (Papua-Sulawesi zone), Mitra Kukar (Kalimantan zone) and also the champions of Jawa-1 and Jawa-2 zones.
It is expected that Group A will play all their matches in Malang while Solo will be the city for Group B.
