SINGAPORE (11 Feb 2017) – The FA of Singapore (FAS) are pleased to announce that in line with its strategy to develop youth players, a strong team comprising both new and returning coaches has been put together for its youth and developmental teams in 2017.
The changes in the coaching line-up seek to further strengthen the youth development plans unveiled by Technical Director Michel Sablon in May 2016.
The Garena Young Lions will be led by V. Selvaraj, who will be assisted by Robbie Servais, while Fandi Ahmad, Head Coach (Youth), will take charge of the Under-20 National Team. He will be supported by Assistant Coaches Nazri Nasir and S. Subramani, as well as Fitness Coach Aleksandar Bozenko.
In addition, Sofiyan Hamid and former Singapore international Fadzuhasny Juraimi have joined FAS, where they will be Head Coaches of the National Football Academy (NFA) Under-15 and Under-16 teams respectively.
Michel Sablon, expressing confidence in the line-up of coaches, said: “It is essential that all our coaches are on board in realising our common vision of continuously improving football in Singapore. Coach development is a key component in our youth development plan, and we hope that by giving our coaches the opportunity to coach at different levels, they will be able to progress in their coaching career. We have a long-term project in place here, and I am happy to be working with a team of coaches that is committed to bringing our plans to fruition.”
Head Coach, National Youth Teams Richard Tardy (main pix), who is overseeing the 2017 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games squad, concurred: “We have been working with Michel on implementing the youth development plan introduced last year, and we are confident that we will begin to reap the benefits of this plan in time to come.
“I am grateful for the support that the FAS management and our stakeholders have given us in our preparations for the SEA Games so far. I hope that more organisations will join us and support the SEA Games squad in our quest this year.”
Added Fandi Ahmad: “I am delighted to be working together again with Nazri, Subramani and Sasha [Bozenko]. It is my dream to nurture youth players and I believe that we have put together a great backroom team to develop the Under-20 players. I hope to uncover more talented players and help them to reach their greatest potential.”
Ex-national striker Fadzuhasny Juraimi, who was previously coaching the Home United FC Centre of Excellence team, enthused: “I am honoured to be joining a team of established coaches to work with the youth footballers in Singapore. As a former national player myself, I can understand the youth players’ passion and desire to play for Singapore in future. I hope to not only work to improve the boys’ technical skills but also to inspire them to dream big and scale new heights.”
