SINGAPORE (23 July 2015) – The FA of Singapore (FAS) are pleased to announce Richard Tardy as the new Head Coach for the Youth national teams.
The 65-year-old Frenchman from Marseille, has a UEFA Coaching Pro License and a Diploma of Youth Coaches.
A former professional footballer, he started his coaching career as Head Coach of French third division side Miramas before joining the French Football Federation (FFF) as Assistant Coach of the French National Youth teams in 1979.
During his 20-year stint with the FFF, he was the Assistant Coach to Gerard Houllier for the France National U-20 team which won the 1996 European U-20 Championships and reached the quarter-finals of the FIFA U-20 World Cup in 1997.
He was also the Assistant Coach of the French U-17 team that reached the semi-finals of the 1992 European Championships.
Tardy then joined the Moroccan FA as Technical Director of the National Youth Academy in 1997. During his time there, he was also the Head Coach of the Moroccan U20 and U17 teams, and served as Assistant Coach to their senior national team at the FIFA World Cup Finals in 1998.
He then went on to become the Assistant Coach of the United Arab Emirates (U.A.E.) National Team before coaching club sides in the top divisions in Greece, Ivory Coast, U.A.E., Qatar and France. In between these stints, he was also Head Coach of the Lebanon National and Olympic Teams.
The Lebanese Olympic team qualified for the 2004 Olympic Games in Greece.
Tardy’s most recent appointment before joining FAS was as Technical Director of Rwanda Football Association, where he also led the U20 and U17 national teams, helping the latter to qualify for the U17 Youth World Cup in 2011.
Fluent in English and French, coupled with his illustrious career in youth development coaching, Tardy will be an excellent addition to FAS youth development structure currently managed by Technical Director Michel Sablon. He will report to Sablon, and will be responsible for the preparation and implementation of the Football Development Plans.
