BANGKOK (July 20, 2007) – The FA of Thailand (FAT) will continue to put their faith in current national coach Chanvit Phalajivin even though the national side failed to make the quarter-finals of the Asian Cup 2007.
Despite a bright start to their campaign when they held Iraq to a 1-1 draw in their first game in Group A before beating Oman 2-0 in their second match, their 4-0 defeat in their last match against Australia saw them failing to make the last eight of the competition. “The team did a good job in the tournament, so there is no reason why FAT should not allow Chanvit and team manager Kittirat Na Ranong to continue to be in charge of the team for the SEA Games, the King’s Cup and the World Cup qualifying round,” said FAT president Worawi Makudi. Chanvit on the other hand added that the experience in the Asian Cup where they put up several fine performances against Iraq, Oman and even Australia have given renewed confidence to the team’s future. But just like other teams in Asean, Chanvit said the Thai national team will need more support from the government for them to go another level. “We need money to take on the powerhouses in Asia, build a proper league and prove ourselves. I believe we will climb higher and qualifying for the World Cup is something we are capable of one day,”’ admitted Chanvit (pic). |
