HANOI (14 Jan 2014) – Former champs SHB Da Nang made a fabulous start to the V-League 2014 when they beat Dong Tam Long An 3-1 at home yesterday.
But Dong Tam were anything but pushovers as they held out for long periods before conceding the first goal in the 39th minute when Argentine striker Merlo Gaston charged in to beat goalkeeper Nguyen Tien Phong.
Ten minutes after the half, Adrian Valentic tapped in a free-kick to double Da Nang’s lead as David Mrwanda then pulled a goal back not too long later when he pounced in a rebound.
But the game was always going to be Da Nang’s as Mamic Bojan then made a perfect debut with the third goal for the homesters in the 75th minute off a quick counter-attack.
Elsewhere, Song Lam Nghe An beat Quang Ninh Coal 1-0 as Dong Nai were held to a 2-2 draw by Ninh Binh 2-2.
Defending champions Hanoi T&T coasted past Becamex Binh Duong 4-2, Quang Nam edged Hung Vuong An Giang 1-0 while Hai Phong drew Thanh Hoa goalless.
