SINGAPORE (5 June 2015) – Myanmar chief coach Kyi Lwin said that the key to their success so far in the group games was the fact they approached every match as a final match.
The current coach of Magway FC in the Myanmar National League (MNL) has managed to deliver a double in their first two matches in Group A – beating Indonesia 4-2 and also edging hosts Singapore 2-1 last night.
“Football is a state of mind,” said Kyi Lwin through an interpreter. “Every match is difficult, so we have to approach the game in the right manner.
“I told the players that they need to take every game as a final game. That everything counts so they have to play for everything.
“So we are very happy that we have won our first two matches. We have fought hard for everything.”
For the second time in two matches, the Myanmar fans showed that they are 100% behind their team as they turn up in the thousands to give their overwhelming support.
Myanmar are chasing their first gold medal since 1973 as they look to make up for the disappointment of two years ago when they failed even to make the semi-finals.
A mix-up in the understanding of the ruling then saw hosts Myanmar being shown the exit from the championship they were so eager to win.
“We still have two more matches to play for and we will still play the same way as we had done in our first two games,” he added.
The six points from the first two matches allowed Myanmar to take control of Group A as Cambodia are placed second as Singapore third.
