JAKARTA (25 July 2012) – Following Galatasaray FC’s decision to pull out of the Java Cup a few days earlier, now it is Everton’s turn to announce that they will give the Jakarta tournament a miss.
“Due to the inability on the part of the organiser to give us the confirmation who will replace Galatasaray for the Java Cup, we have little choice but to decide against making the trip East,” said an Everton spokesman.
“It was a tough decision to make and we would like to apologise to all supporters for not being able to be in Jakarta this week.”
Initially, the Indonesia U23 squad was supposed to take on Everton on the first matchday on 26 July while the Malaysians U23 team will play Galatasaray.
But following the absence of Galatasaray, the Indonesian senior squad has stepped in take the Malaysians instead. Now, the question is who will replace Everton and play the Indonesia U23?
Or will there be a change in the competition format instead?
