BANGKOK (12 Jan 2011) – The FA of England have cancelled the planned friendly against the Thailand in Bangkok this year which was initially pencilled in for a June date.
It was to have been the first time the England national side would had played in Thailand but the English FA had cited scheduling concerns for the withdrawal.
The Thailand-England fixture would likely have proved a highly lucrative event for the Thai organisers.
The secretary-general of the FA of Thailand (FAT) Ong-arj Kosinkar confirmed the English FA’s cancellation in a letter dated 22 Dec.
In the letter, English FA general-secretary Alex Horne said: “I have been informed by Sir David Richards (English FA chairman) that the England national team is not ready to come to Thailand according to the programme that was set earlier.”
