DILI (18 August 2014) –Even Keeping track of new technological trends as well as the latest teaching methods has been a core component in the evolution of FIFA’s FUTURO III development programme over the past decade Fernando Tresaco Gracia, Senior Manager of Refereeing Development at FIFA has said.
“The one main concept is to ‘Teach the Teachers’ and it is hoped that this strategy will in turn produce a snowball effect and translate into the development of good referees,” remarked Spaniard, who is in Kuala Lumpur to instruct at the six-day Technical Instructors Course, held as part of the FIFA FUTURO III Regional Course for Referee Instructors (ASEAN).
“This is the tenth anniversary for FUTURO III, which coincidently started its’ first pilot project in Kuala Lumpur. The course which had very simple roots has evolved into one that uses new technology, modern teaching tools, methods and approaches.”
Gracia continued: “The main objective of the FIFA Referee Assistance program which started in 2008 on the other hand is to improve the referees. However, this target can only be achieved by improving the instructors first.
“This objective is supported by new teaching materials and tools. New technology is increasingly playing a role in the education of referees.”
The FIFA FUTURO III Regional Course for Referee Instructors (ASEAN) taking place in the Malaysian capital from August 13-18 event and sees and Fitness Instructor Course running simultaneously with the Technical Instructor Course.
Gracia added that he hoped the 39 participants will use the knowledge gained from this course and will improve themselves not only the in their understanding in the updates and amendments to Laws of the Game but also the methodology used in developing referees.
The Spaniard also encouraged participants to share their experiences with one another and to pass on the knowledge they gather during FIFA, AFC and Member Association courses and educational activities whenever they can.
