BANGKOK (7 May 2011) – The proposed election for president of the FA of Thailand (FAT) was called off yesterday with the federation claiming that several member had more than one representative while others did not have proper ID cards.
Incumbent FAT president Datuk Worawi Makudi and Pichate Munkong were the only two candidates although there were speculation that former national team manager Virach Chanpanich was likely to be nominated as a third candidate.
There are 173 eligible voters which also include 19 FAT executives.
“The FAT executive board has decided to postpone the election to ensure that it will be fair and transparent. We will arrange a new date as soon as possible,” said Worawi to Bangkok Post.
Nattavuth Ruengves, the representative of the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT) at yesterday’s election, said the FAT must formally explain to the SAT why it postponed the poll.
“They must give us a proper reason before setting a new date for the FAT election,” he said.
