EINTRACHT PUT TWO PAST VIETNAM

The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) had planned the match as part of the 1,000th anniversary celebration of the city of of Hanoi this October and also the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Germany.

Eintracht, who are currently 10th in the Bundesliga, made full use of their physical strength and controlled the match right from the start with Salim Teber testing Vietnam goal keeper Hong Son but the ball hit the cross bar.

The German side kept poking holes in the Vietnamese backline and in a sustained pressure in the 30-34th minute, striker Alexander set up three scoring chances but to no avail.

It was the hosts who almost found the lead with seconds remaining of the first half but a penalty taken by Quang Hai failed to beat Eintracht goalie Oka Nikolov saved.

Eintracht bid their time after the break before finding the back of the net off captain Alexander Meier in the 70th minute and Halil Altintop two minutes later.

Eintracht Frankfurt was established in 1899 and won the European Cup in 1980.
