PHNOM PENH (Feb 17, 2008) – Phnom Penh Empire made it all too easy in the quarter-finals of the Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Decho Hun Sen Cup-2008 when they beat Baksey Chamkrong 6-0 last week.
Empire, who was the runners-up to Cambodian league champions Naga Corp FC, had little trouble against their hapless opponents who completed the recent season at the bottom of the table. In the match that was played at the National Olympic Stadium in Phnom Penh, Empire took a three-goal lead at the break with goals coming off Chan Rithy in the eighth minute and a brace from Keo So Ngan in the 24th and 40th minute. So Ngan completed his hat-trick with the third goal eight minutes to the end as Chan Chhaya added to the misery of Baksey with goals in the 75th and 86th minute. In the meantime, Build Bright University FC emerged victorious over Moha Garuda FC in the match that was played later in the afternoon. Build Bright scored a goal in each half of the game – Nnandi Sylester Ahiem (5th minute) and Um Chan Dara (52nd minute) for the chance to get into the next round of the competition.
