SINGAPORE (6 Nov 2009) – A double from veteran striker Aleksandar Duric gave Singapore a 3-1 win over Indonesia in an international friendly that was played at the National Stadium.
“They were a good opponent and similar to Thailand in style so it was good to play them in this game. We scored three good goals so I have to be happy with that,” said Singapore head coach Radojko Avramovic after the match. Duric, the S-League’s top scorer for three years on a trot, opened account as early as the tenth minute when he headed in a cross form Shaiful Esah to beat Indonesian keeper Markus Harison. The early goal prodded the visiting side into action and just three minutes later, it was Eka Ramdani’s turn to find the back of the net with a grounder which eluded Singapore’s Hassan Sunny. In the 19th minute, Singapore restored their lead when striker Mohd Noh Alam Shah made good on a cross from Shaiful before Duric grabbed his second of the night in the 57th minute to put the game beyond contention. “We did not have much time to prepare for this game and we were beaten by set pieces for each of their goals,” observed Benny Dolo, the head coach for Indonesia. “It was good preparation for our game against Kuwait as they have tall players, too, who can make use of set pieces.“ Singapore are using the match in preparation for the games against Thailand in the 2011 Asian Cup qualifiers on 14 Nov and 18 Nov. The Indonesians will be playing Kuwait in their qualifying campaign. |
