HANOI (27 June 2009) – Mai Duc Chung, the head coach of Becamex Binh Duong, could not be more than pleased with the performance of his players in the recent AFC Cup since taking over the mantle two months ago.
The defending V-League champions crushed Malaysian treble winners Kedah 8-2 in the final 16 of the AFC Cup 2009 to be the first Vietnamese team ever to make the quarter-finals of the championship. “Since the first day I took charge of Binh Duong two months ago, this is the first match that I feel totally satisfied with my players,” he said “They have played some of their best football recently and most of the players showed that they have the motivation to do well the AFC Cup despite the fact our form is not so good domestically. “It is good to be in the quarter-final for the first time. I hope we will maintain this attitude in the next round as maybe our next opponents will be quite tough.” Binh Duong is currently placed eighth in the V-League. In the match against Kedah, Helio and Vu Phong scored two goals in the 18th and 19th minute before recently naturalized Vietnamese international Huynh Kesley nailed two goals in the 40th and 41st minute. Kesley then added three more to his tally with further goals 74th, 84th and 90th minute as Anh Duc then contributed the other goal ten minutes to the end for the final scoreline. |
