YANGON (5 March 2013) – After a winning start to their AFC Challenge Cup qualifiers against Guam three days ago, Myanmar just could not maintain the momentum when they were held to a 1-1 draw by Chinese Taipei last night at the Youth Training Centre.
Playing in Group A, striker Soe Kyaw Kyaw gave Myanmar the best of start with the lead on 18th minute. But Chinese Taipei captain Meng Chian Lee made sure that both teams walked away with the one point when he converted a penalty for the homesters ten minutes from time.
Myanmar will play table toppers India in the decisive match of the group tomorrow.

In the meantime in Group C, Laos picked up their first full points of the qualifiers when they beat Sri Lanka 4-2 at the Laos National Stadium. Laos were held to a 1-1 draw by Mongolia in their first match in the group.
A penalty in the 31st minute gave Laos the lead when midfielder Souk Aphone did not fail from the spot as Vilayout Sayyaboun then doubled the lead just two minutes after the restart.
Viengsavanh Sayyaboun then made 3-0 in the 71st minute before Sri Lanka replied with their first goal off Charitha Mudiyanselage three minutes later.
But Sangvone Phimmasen made sure that Laos will have an even chance at an automatic qualification with their fourth goal of the game in the 77th which saw Chatura Pordi’s 81st minute effort a futile effort.
Laos will play Afghanistan next for the decider.
Other than the five group winners getting into the final round of the AFC Challenge Cup 2014, two second-placed teams will also win the passage alongside hosts Maldives.
