YANGON (27 May 2015) – The 2-2 draw against Vietnam in their final friendly ahead of the SEA Games this week was a boost for Myanmar as they look to regain their battered pride at the biennial championship.
A mis-calculation in their final game in the group two years ago in Myanmar saw the hosts failing to make the cut for the semi-finals.
But this time round, there will not be such ‘mishap’ as Myanmar – under experienced coach Kyi Lwin – will be going all out to make sure that they take at least one spot from the group.
In the friendly against Vietnam at the Quang Ninh Province, a late penalty gave Myanmar a well-deserved 2-2 draw.
Nguyen Cong Phuong opened account in the 23rd minute before Myanmar captain Nay Lin Tun converted a penalty in the 74th minute.
Le Thanh Binh then restored the lead for Vietnam five minutes later off adefensive lapse as Myanmar then replied with their second penalty right at the end.
Zon Moe Aung had a double bite of the cherry when he slammed home the rebound after his earlier shot was blocked by goalie Phi Minh Long.
Vietnam will open their campaign on 29 May against Brunei while Myanmar will only take to the field on
