SINGAPORE (21 Aug 2015) – Brunei DPMM moved top of the Great Eastern Yeo’s S.League table after getting the better of defending champions Warriors FC 2-0 in mid-week.
The triumph was the Brunei side’s second over the Warriors this season after winning 3-1 at the Jalan Besar Stadium on May 24.
Brazilian forward Rafael Ramazotti found the back of the net in the first half before substitute Adi Said scored late in stoppage time to seal all three points for DPMM at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in Berakas.
It was all DPMM right from kick off and they deservedly grabbed the lead in the 21st minute.
Hendra Azam had intercepted the ball at midfield before sending the ball to Azwan Ali on the left, and the latter dribbled through the Warriors defence before pulling the ball back for Ramazotti to blast home from 12 yards out, bringing the Brazilian’s tally to a league-high 14 goals.
The Warriors were also given a scare as custodian Daniel Ong picked up an injury from the play, but he continued in goal after receiving treatment.
The hosts got another opportunity in the 38th minute after a dazzling run by skipper Rosmin Kamis found Shahrazen Said just inside the box, but the forward fired straight to the hands of Ong.
They were on the attack again the next minute and Hendra went with an effort from just over 20 yards out but it floated just over the bar.
The Warriors got a chance at the other end after Syaqir Sulaiman was given a free header but he could not get it on target.
Ramazotti almost doubled the advantage for DPMM just before half-time with an overhead kick at the end of Azwan Ali’s cross from the right but Ong dealt with it for his last touch of the match.
The goalkeeper was then deemed unfit to carry on with play, as he was substituted by Shahul Rayyan at the restart.
Shahrazen should have done better in the 57th minute after he was left unmarked to head Sairol Sahari’s cross but he was off target.
Nicolas Velez should have gotten his name on the scoresheet in his last match for the Warriors but he failed to put away the chances that fell for him.
The visitors came close to leveling again in the 76th minute after defender Brian McLean slipped and allowed substitute Fazrul Nawaz to pull the ball back for Velez.
He then fired a low shot from 15 yards out to the bottom corner but Wardun dived down to his left to deny him.
DPMM had a good chance to kill off the game in the 86th minute off a counter attack, but Shahul stood in Ramazotti’s path as he tipped away the striker’s volley at full stretch.
But the hosts still managed to score their second goal just before the final whistle, with Adi Said slotting past Shahul to seal the win for for them.
