BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (1 Jan 2012) – With slightly over a month left to their return to the Singapore S-League, Brunei’s only professional club DPMM FC will be playing against Chiangrai United in a friendly on 18 January.
The team which had been in training since October last year, is looking forward to what will be their first real test after friendlies against the Royal Brunei Armed Forces’ Sports Council (MS ABDB) and the Brunei national Under-23 team.
“We need a tougher test. One that can only be provided by foreign teams,” said Vjeran Simunic, the chief coach of DPMM. “Playing against local teams we wouldn’t be able to see the real picture. If we win 8-0 against a local club it won’t help us too much. But we do our best; we practise and play various friendlies against each other.”
Chiangrai United, coached by Brazilian Stefano Cugurra, are playing in the Thai Premier League.
