BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (21 June 2009) – DPMM FC grabbed their first-ever major silverware in their history when they lifted the Singapore League Cup on the weekend.
What made the win all the more satisfying was the fact that they had beaten the S-League defending champions Singapore Armed Forces FC (SAFFC) in the final that was played at the Jalan Besar Stadium. The score at the end of regulation was 1-1 after Aleksandar Duric’s seventh minute lead was cancelled out by Croatian defender Rene Komar just three minutes later. But DPMM emerged victorious in the penalty shootout with a 4-3 score after Rosmin Khamis converted the all-important kick following misses from SAFFC’s Japanese midfielder Masahiro Fukasawa and Razaleigh Khalid. “I am really happy to have played such a big part in the win,” said DPMM keeper Wardun. “I knew I could do it (save the shots). I did not feel any pressure during the penalties because it was not the first time I have been in a shootout.” PIC: His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah (at left), the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and chairman of DPMM FC, being presented the Singapore League trophy by Pengiran Haji Muhd Waslimin PSJ Pengiran Haji Abd Momin (at centre), Acting Club Manager of DPMM FC with Vjeran Simunic, head coach of the team (at right) |
