BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (April 5, 2007) – The win over Selangor in the Malaysian Super League last night has allowed DPMM FC to dream big as they look to topple Kedah from the top spot.
The club side from Brunei has currently scored nine wins, four draws and two defeats from 15 matches for a total of 31 points – just a point behind current league leader Kedah. However, northerners Kedah have played a game less where their 1-1 draw against Sarawak in their last game was more of winning a point on the road than losing two. DPMM FC (in red and black strip in pic), who had conceded a 2-1 defeat to Selangor in the first leg match at the Stadium Shah Alam back in February, was full of determination to make sure that they are not at the receiving end this time round. And using their fabulous 4-3 win over Perak the previous week as added incentive, they were pressing Selangor hard from the very first whistle. But it was not until the third minute in the second half that DPMM finally carved a smile on the face of head coach Buketa Ranko when Mohd Shahrazen Said out jumped the Selangor defence to head in the lead. Incidentally, Shahrazen’s goal on the night was his 14th of the season with Keita Mandjou from Perak on second and Marlon Alex James on third with 10 points each in the chase for this year’s Golden Boots. With Selangor back-pedalled and anxious to get back into the game, an own goal from Zaiza Zainal Abidin sealed the points for DPMM FC in the 62 minute. CURRENT SUPER LEAGUE STANDING 1.
