JAKARTA (4 Sept 2009) – Copa Dji Sam Soe is officially no more – this follows the official letter from Dji Sam Soe’s parent company PT HM Sampoerna Tbk(HMS) to Indonesia Cup organiser recently.
But the annual Indonesia Cup will still be played for the next edition with the possibility of a new sponsor coming on board. In the letter that was sent by HMS to Liga Indonesia, the former stated that the relationship between them and officials from Liga Indonesia over the years has been impeccable. And it is believed that the withdrawal was due to a change in direction of the company’s promotional activities. For the record, the first, second and third edition of the Copa Dji Sam Soe saw the participation of teams from Division One, Division Two and the Premier Division. For the fourth edition which ended recently, it was taken part by Division One, the Premier Division and the Indonesian Super League. Throughout the four years, only two teams have won the overall crown of the Indonesia Cup through Arema (1996 and 1997) and Sriwijaya FC (1998 and 1999). |
