KUANTAN (29 Feb 2019) – It was bad day for Terengganu teams and neighbours Pahang in Saturday’s Malaysian Super League matches.
Defending champions Johor Darul Takzim did enough to tame Terengganu 2-0 at the Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin Stadium in Gong Badak, Kuala Terengganu while Malaysia Cup champions Selangor came from behind to whip Pahang in Kuantan.
Felda United remained on top with an unbeaten record with a 2-0 win over Terengganu’s second team in the elite league – T-Team (Terengganu FC II). The Fighters made three wins out of three with 2-0 win at the Tun Abdul Razak Stadium in Jengka.
Felda United rode on a brace by Hadim Azman who struck in the 31st and 77th minutes. The plantation giants top the table with nine points from three wins.
JDT, fresh from their 8-1 whitewash of Ayeyawady United in the AFC Cup match at the Larkin Stadium on Wednesday, scored two in the first half and then relaxed in the second-half to remain in second place with seven points.
Chanturu scored the first on 28 minutes after being put through by Jorge Pereyra Diaz with a curling right footed shot. Diaz then got his name into the scoresheet when he outwitted two markers before sending a grounder past Sharbinee Alawee in the 33rd minute.
The main focus was at the Darul Makmur Stadium in Kuantan where Selangor chief coach Zainal Abidin Hassan and his four ex-Pahang players – goalkeeper Khaorul Azhan Khalid, defender Razman Roslan, midfielder Hafiz Kamal and flanker R. Gopinathan returned to their ‘home’ for the first time after leaving the Elephants at the end of last season.
However, a new look Pahang took the lead after 13 minutes when Faisal Halim was in target off a freekick.
But the Red Giants hit back with a brace by Patrick Ronaldinho Wleh in the 36th and 45th minutes before Gopinathan hammered the third on 68 minutes. Selangor are third also with seven points but separated by goal difference.
Penang snatched a late goal through Mathias Cordoba for a 2-2 draw against Police at the Hang Jebat Stadium in Malacca. The Panthers scored first through S. Kumaahran after only two minutes but a penalty by Ali Ashfaq (65th) and Souleymane Konate put Police ahead.
Perak proved yet again that they are a hard team to beat in Ipoh after holding newly promoted Kedah to a scoreless draw despite a spate of injuries to key players.
