VIENTIAE (29 Sept 2015) – Steve Darby, the head coach of Laos, is striving towards the creation of a ‘Team Laos’ concept as they look to provide not only more bite into their 2018 World Cup qualifying campaign but also for the long term.
After four matches in the qualifiers, Laos have only picked up one point from four matches played.
“We have tried to create a “Team Laos” concept where there are not major changes in the National team. This is to try to build a team mentality so the players know what they are doing on and off the pitch,” said Darby,
“So far it is working, in the last 7 games we have had wins, draws and narrow defeats, conceding no more than 2 goals (with the exception of Korea who are on a completely different world class level)) Our aim is to “close the gap” on other nations and climb the FIFA rankings which we have already started to do.
“The aim was to also integrate the best U19s into the squad to prepare them for the National Team but we have not been able to do that due to their AFC commitments.
“We will be going all out attack against Malaysia and Myanmar as we believe these games are winnable. If the players reproduce the tactical discipline of the Kuwait performance with their current LPL form then we have a good chance.
