HANOI (6 August 2009) – SHB Da Nang won their first V-League crown in 17 years – with still three games to go to the end of the season.
But what made the win more satisfying was their 2-0 win over Nam Dinh at the Chi Lang Stadium – their first win in three years. At the end of the 23rd match day of the premier V-League, Da Nang have an unassailable 49 points. The team is under the leadership of coach Le Huynh Duc, who was a former Vietnam national striker and three-times winner of Vietnam’s Golden Ball award for Best Player of the Year. With home turf advantage, Da Nang pushed hard in the first half where in the 18th minute, Merlo Gaston blasted in the lead following a fumble from Da Nang then completed the win when Molina doubled the lead in the 72nd minute. In the other matches, defending champions Becamex Binh Duong lost to T&T Ha Noi 3-2 at the Hang Day Stadium while at the Nha Trang Stadium, hosts Khanh Hoa edged Hai Phong 1-0 with the lone strike from Felix in the 16th minute. In Pleiku, two-time champions Hoang Anh Gia Lai (HAGL) were held to a 1-1 draw by The Cong as Tanh Hoa fell to a 2-1 defeat to Military Zone Four and Song Lam Nghe An overcoming Dong Thap 1-0 at Vinh Stadium. HCM City beat Dong Tam Long An 2-0 to complete the weekend fixtures. |
