CHONBURI NARROW GAP AT TOP OF TPL 2012

BANGKOK (8 July 2012) – Former champions Chonburi FC narrowed the gap at the top of the Thai Premier League 2012 when they set aside TTM Chiang Mai 1-0 to within five points of leaders SCG Muang Thong United – with a game in hand.

In the game that was played at the Chiang Mai 700th Anniversary Stadium, the goal from Fode Diakite right at the death gave Chonburi the valuable three points. After 14 matches in the TPL 2012, the Sharks have picked up 30 points.

And the victory for Chonburi could not have been more important considering that current leaders SCG Muang Thong were held to a 1-1 draw by Chiang Rai United.

It was the hosts Chiang Rai who stunned Muang Thong with the lead when Leandro Assumpcao pounced on the goal just before the break. But some hard work later saw Muang Thong earning the one point when Mario Djurovski scored on 78 minute.

Elsewhere, BEC Tero Sasana were held to a scoreless draw by Army United as Thai Port also saw the same deadlock in their match against Osotspa M-150 Saraburi.

Chainat FC rallied to a 1-1 draw against Esan United at Khao Plong Stadium as Pattaya United also drew 1-1 with Insee Police United at the Nong Prue Stadium.
