BANGKOK (22 Sept 2009) – Chonburi FC gave up the chance to overtake Muang Thong United at the top of the Thai Premier League 2009 when they could only afford a 2-2 draw against TTM-Samut Sakhon.
With Muang Thong being held to a 1-1 draw by Chula United a day earlier, Chonburi needed to pick up the full points against TTM Samut for them to wrest the leadership. But it would seem that a battling TTM Samut were more than Chonburi can handle at the Sirindhorn Stadium as the former came back twice to share the spoils. Jean Marc Benie gave Chonburi the lead in the 25th minute only for it to be cancelled out by Chatprapob Usaprom ten minutes later. Welshman Michael Byrne then fired Chonburi 2-1 in front in the second half only for Bekombo Ekollo to score the second equaliser in injury time. In the other matches, hosts PEA thrashed Pattaya United 4-1 at the At Ayutthaya Stadium and Bangkok Glass won 1-0 away win at Navy Rayong.
