BANGKOK (4 August 2009) – A late goal from Supawut Thueanklang saved the day for leaders Chonburi Bluewave as they fought back from a goal down to hold CAT Telecom to a 2-2 draw to seal the Thai Premier League 2009 crown on the weekend.
Following a first-half deadlock, Lertchai Issarasuwipakorn grabbed the lead for CAT Telecom with the first goal of the game in the 33rd minute before Chonburi drew level off Ekaphan Suratsawang four minutes later. Panuwat Janta then uncharacteristically gave CAT Telecom the advantage when he conceded an own goal a minute later. But Supawut, who blasted four goals last week past Bangkok Glass, then nailed the one point in the game with the late equaliser for Chonburi with seconds remaining on the clock. The draw has allowed Chonburi finish the season at the top of the table with a two-point advantage over second-placed CAT Telecom. In the meantime, I AM Sport fell to a 5-1 defeat to TOT FC to finish third at the table – with an eight-point advantage over fourth-placed Port Authority of Thailand. Port Authority, the defending champions, were held to a 2-2 draw by Rattana Bundit. FINAL THAI FUTSAL LEAGUE 2009 STANDINGS 1. Chonburi Bluewave 54pts (+54) 2. CAT Telecom 52pts (+34) 3.
