YANGON (25 Dec 2011) – Chin United are the latest team to confirm their participation in the Myanmar National League 2012. U Zaw Zaw (pix), the president of the Myanmar Football Federation (MFF) announced this week that the new season of the MNL will have 14 teams taking part.
The MNL 2012 will kick off on 8 January.
Chin United owner Dr James Lian Sai has made the presentation to the MNL on the required documents, including the budget for three seasons as well as an account statement showing K200 million (USD 3 million) had been deposited in Myawaddy Bank.
The club had also recruited a squad of about 50 players, including former national players Mala and La Kye Oo Hlew. Chin United will use the Mingalardon 8th Police Regiment’s football ground as their training pitch.
“It’s a big problem that we don’t have a home stadium. However, we will overcome this situation because we love and value football and will try our best to build a strong team that our supporters can be proud of,” La Kye Oo Hlew said.
Under Chin United’s business model, 30% of income is expected to come from sponsorship, 30% from broadcast fees, 30% from entrance fees and 10% from the sale of jerseys and other club gear.
La Kye added that Chin United could only afford to pay salaries of K100,000 (USD 160) to players, while several other clubs could easily pay three times as much.
U Zaw Zaw said that the announcement of the 14th club – Mawrawady FC from northern Shan State – to join the MNL will be made later in the week.
