BANGKOK (Feb 22, 2007) – Chanvit Phalajivin has decided to quit as the head coach of Thailand’s national team and signed with Vietnam club side Dong Thap instead.
Dong Thap had only recently been promoted to the top flight of the V-League and following the signing of Chanvit, his immediate task would be to make sure that the club remained on top at the end of the season. “I would like to thank the FA of Thailand (FAT) for allowing me this opportunity where as far as Dong Thap is concerned, I will do my best for them to be among the top ten teams at the end of the season,” said Chanvit (pic). With an expected salary of more than USD 14,000 a month, Chanvit’s contract with the Vietnamese club will begin on 1st March, 2007. In the last two years following the decision to do away with the services of Englishman Peter Withe, Thailand has gone through a handful of coaches including Carlos Roberto Carvalho from Brazil, Chatchai Paholpat and former German international Siegfried Held. Chanvit’s only call to success with the Thai team was his win gold medal winning effort at the 23rd SEA Games in Manila in 2005 before losing in the final to Singapore at the recently concluded Asean Football Championship. “There are many talented coaches in Thailand who can take over from me,” quipped Chanvit afterwards. |
