BANGKOK (9 March 2012) – Doubles champion SCG Muang Thong United have received a cash injection of THB 150 million (USD 4.9 million) to regain the glory they lost last season to the ambition of Buriram PEA.
Muang Thong, who were the Thai Premier League winners in 2009 and 2010 season, finished the league on third in 2011 behind champions Buriram and second-placed Chonburi FC. Buriram won all the available silverware in 2011- the Thai Premier League, the Thai FA Cup and also the Thai League Cup.
“We have at least THB 150 million to strengthen the squad after we were third in the league and second in the FA Cup last season,” said Ronnarit Suewaja, the general manager of SCG Muang Thong.
Other than having signed Slavisa Jokanovic as the new chief coach to replace Robbie Fowler, Muang Thong have also gotten former Ajax Amsterdam’s Adnan Barakat alongside Macedonia international Mario Djurovski. Local signings include Ekapoom Photharongroj, Natarid Thammarossopon and Thitiphan Puangjan.
