PHNON PENH (14 June 2012) – The Cambodian national Under-22 side could not have gotten a better tonic in their preparation for the AFC U22 Asian Cup qualifiers when they thrashed their counterparts from the Philippines 5-1 at the National Olympic Stadium last night.
The team under Prak Somony took a 2-0 lead at the half with a brace from Sos Suhana (1st and 13th minute). They then added to their tally with second half strikes from Phoung Soksana (51st minute), Keo Sokngon (77th) and Heng Sokly (89th).
The only goal for the Philippines came in the 84th minute off Poteria Jose Elmer.
Cambodia are in Group F of the AFC U22 Asian Cup qualifiers against China, DPR Korea, Hong Kong, Laos and Thailand. They will play all their games in Vientiane.
In the meantime, the Malaysian U22 team will take on Qatar instead of Timor Leste in a friendly match on 17 June 2012 at the Shah Alam Stadium.
Timor Leste had to withdraw due to some unforeseen circumstances.
Both Malaysia and the Philippines are in the same Group G against Chinese Taipei, South Korea, Myanmar and Vietnam. They will play all their matches in Yangon.
