HANOI (16 Nov 2010) – Vietnam national coach Henrique Calisto has called on eight players to form part of the training squad for the team’s preparation ahead of the AFF Suzuki Cup 2010 next month.
The Vietnam Asian Games squad began well in Guangzhou with a 3-1 win over Bahrain before conceding losses to Turkmenistan (6-2) and Iran (1-0). In the Round of 16, the Vietnamese lost 2-0 to South Korea. The eight players – Pham Thanh Luong, Nguyen Minh Duc, Bui Tan Truong, Nguyen Anh Duc, Nguyen Trong Hoang, Dinh Thanh Trung, Ngoc Dieu and Nguyen Quoc Long – will form a squad of 30 players in training before Calisto trims it down to 20 players for the tournament proper. Vietnam, the winner in 2008, have been classified in Group B against Singapore, Myanmar and the Philippines while Group A are hosts Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia and Laos. In the meantime, the friendly match between Indonesia and Philippines which was supposed to be held in Jakarta tonight has been called off. |
