PETALING JAYA (19 Sept 2009) – With exactly a week left to the start of the Malaysia Cup 2009, Peter Butler has decided to call it quits as the head coach of east coast side Kelantan.
Butler (pix) faxed in his official letter of resignation to Kelantan FA (KAFA) president Tan Sri Annuar Musa even though he still has two months to go to the end of his tenure. It seems that the team management and players have accepted Butler’s letter of resignation for now with rumours abound claiming that the latter has accepted a position with a club from Myanmar. “I don’t want to make wild accusations which could end in a controversy although if what is being said about Butler is true then I think that his action is not fair to us as he still has a running contract and we are in the midst of preparing for a very important competition which will start soon,“ said Tan Sri Annuar. “His contract ends in November and we will have to look at the exact terms where he has to take the team to three competitions and not just two.“ In Butler’s letter of resignation, he has cited his wife’s illness as the main reason for his departure from the squad. “Peter’s absence will be replaced by Hashim (Mustapha) where he will be assisted by the President’s Cup team coach Kamarudin Md. Noor,” added Tan Sri Annuar. “The same thing happened to us last season when the previous coach left the team in the lurch just before the Malaysia Cup but I hope that through this experience, the team will pull together and band as a unit to take up the Malaysia Cup challenge. “We have also decided on a new bonus system for the Malaysia Cup where the players will be paid RM2,000 (USD 574) for each win instead of RM500 last season (USD 143).“ |
