BANGKOK (8 Jan 2012) – Newly-crowned Thai Premier League (TPL) champions Buriram PEA will take on Muang Thong United in the final of the FA Cup which has been scheduled for 10 January.
Buriram, who are in the chase for the treble this season, made the final of the FA Cup this year after beating Army United 2-0 at the Rajamangala National Stadium with goals off Suchao Natnum’s penalty in the fifth minute and Frank Acheampong (22nd minute).
Buriram are also in the final of the League Cup where they will play Thai Port FC in next month.
Muang Thong United on the other hand beat Songkhla FC on penalties after a 2-2 draw in the other semi-final tie. In the match that was played at the Thephatsadin Stadium, hosts Songkhla grabbed the lead after just two minutes off Malek Yawatab before Robbie Fowler equalized for the visitors after 15 minutes.
In the second half, Diyara Ali put Muang Thong ahead only for Boubah Kwadwo to score an equaliser. Both teams failed to score in extra time and Muang Thong emerged victorious 6-5 in the shoot-out.
