Buriram Lose Pace Against Muang Thong

BANGKOK (21 August 2012) – Defending champions Buriram United lost pace in their effort to close the gap against SCG Muang Thong United when they could only muster a 1-1 draw against the latter at the SCG Stadium on the weekend.

Despite playing with ten men for much of the second half, Muang Thong were still a handful as they fend off the Buriram onslaught to pick up the one point and stretched a 10-point lead at the top of the Thai Premier League 2012.

For Buriram, they must have felt as if lady luck had abandoned them in the second half despite taking the lead through Frank Acheampong’s header from an Apichate Puttan free kick just six minutes into the eagerly anticipated clash.

The score at the end of the first half was 1-0 to Buriram.

Just a minute into the second half, Muang Thong nailed the equaliser when Buriram defender Sivaruk Terdsungnern gifted them a penalty that was converted by Mario Djurovski.

But despite having to play with ten men when Piyapol Buntao received his marching orders soon afterwards, Muang Thong survived a missed penalty from Buriram’s Suchao Nutnum for the one point.

Elsewhere, Osotspa M-150 Saraburi won 2-1 over TTM Chiang Mai at the 700th Anniversary Stadium while Bangkok Glass FC thumped Chainat FC 5-3 at the Leo Stadium.

Samut Songkhram FC edged BB-CU FC 1-0 as Thai Port FC battled TOT SC to a scoreless draw at the PAT Stadium.
