BANGKOK (4 March 2013) – As defending champions SCG Muang Thong scored a close 2-1 win over Army United, former champions Buriram United were lucky to escape with the one point following their 1-1 draw against Suphanburi FC on the first match day of the Thai Premier League 2013.
Playing at home at the I-Mobile Stadium, the homesters just could not break through the tough Suphaburi defence as both teams remained deadlock at the half.
That failure to find the back of the net saw Suchon Sa-nguandee scoring the lead for the visiting Suphanburi side just before the hour mark.
But luck was on Buriram’s side on the day as a curling corner from Charyl Chappuis saw the King’s Trophy winner grabbing the one point from their first league tie.
Elsewhere, TOT SC scored a 3-1 win over Chiang Rai United on the road, Si Sa Ket FC drawing Chainat FC 0-0 while Songkhla United beat Bangkok Glass 1-0.
