KUALA LUMPUR (4 April 2008) – Two of Malaysia’s most promising youngsters – Bunyamin Omar and Badrol Bakhtiar – will be heading to Chelsea for two-weeks training with the English Premier League giants.
The two players, through a joint initiative between the Champions Youth Cup and FAM, were officially announced as the candidates by Dato’ Azzuddin Ahmad, the general secretary of the FA of Malaysia (FAM) at the Wisma FAM this afternoon. “This is another important step for Malaysian football as it will allow our young players the chance to train with the very best and see football from a wider perspective,” said Dato’ Azzuddin, who thanked the Gifted Group, promoters of the CYC, for making the trip happen. “It is an opportunity which both players should grab with both hands,” said Dato’ Azzuddin of the two Kedah players. Defender Bunyamin is a former national U-17 captain and currently plays for MyTeam in the Malaysian Super League while Badrol is a midfielder with Kedah and who had also played for the state at the last SUKMA. This stint comes in the wake of an earlier trip to PSV Eindhoven, also through another joint CYC initiative, which saw Asraruddin Putra Omar and Khairul Fahmie travelling to Holland last year. “We are really looking forward to the trip and would like to thank everyone involved for giving us this opportunity,” added Bunyamin. The Champions Youth Cup was officially launched last week by Malaysian Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports Wee Jeck Seng. |
