BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (7 Feb 2015) – Due to the commitment of the Brunei national players for several international competitions, the National FA of Brunei Darussalam (NFABD) have decided to postpone the DST Super League to April.
The league was supposed to start next week following the DST Sumbangsih Cup on 24 Jan that was won by Indera SC.
But the Brunei national players are currently preparing for next month’s first round qualifiers of the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia Preliminary Competition and Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Asian Cup 2019 Qualifiers.
The younger Brunei Under-23 team will also be involved in the AFC qualifiers in Indonesia where they have been drawn in Group H against hosts Indonesia, South Korea and Timor Leste on 23-31 March.
“We totally support NFABD’s decision to postpone the league to April,” said Indera SC team manager Rosdin Abdul Aziz.
“The decision is totally fair for the clubs who have a number of players representing the national team. In our case, more than half of our first team players are in the national squad and we might struggle to maintain our form against the other teams in the league without these players.
The other teams playing in the DST Super League are MS ABDB, Najip FC, Wijaya FC, Jerudong FC, the Royal Brunei Police Force Sports Council (MS PDB), Kilanas FC, Lun Bawang, IKLS and Tebuan Muda (the national Under-23 football team).
But while the upper DST Super League has been postponed, the lower DST Premier League will begin as scheduled next Saturday.
