BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (4 Oct 2015) – Brunei have set themselves of making the cut for the semi-finals of the AFF Futsal Championship 2015 which begins this week.
In so doing, the Sultanate side is looking to win one of four available places for the AFC Futsal Championship 2016 which will be played in Uzbekistan in February.
“The target is to improve our previous championship record and at least reach the knock-out stages,” said Brunei head coach Azmanuddin Gillen.
“The players have been training hard for the last two to three months; the players showed a good attitude and I can say they have been improving in terms of their skills, technique, defending and game play.”
For the current meet, Brunei are in Group A against Thailand, Timor Leste, Malaysia and Singapore.
At the AFF Futsal Championship last year, Brunei failed to win a single point when they conceded four losses from four matches. They scored only twice as against conceding 36 goals.
“Most of our players have played in the competition last year, so I think they know what to expect and will be mentally prepared for this event as well,” added Azmanuddin.
“It will be a tough competition especially against Thailand as they are the defending champions, but we will try our best to match them.”
